Jonathan Yeo Production Choreographer Treasurer, 2012 President, 2013 | From the commitment given as Treasurer and President in previous years, our next choreographer Jonathan Yeo has been known to give opportunities to all new dancers. I started dancing at the age of 15, finally deciding after a long time interest in dance to try it out for myself. The first class I attended was an urban choreography class. I stuck with it for a year, till I observed a contemporary dance class at the same studio. Intrigued, it has now lead to my love of contemporary dance. Learning both contemporary and urban choreography for the remainder of my high school days, upon starting university, I immediately joined Flare Dance Ensemble in 2011. I found such a wide variety of genres in Flare. Using Flare as a platform, I tried a variety of different styles that have all influenced me as a dancer and choreographer today. Wanting to give back to Flare, I joined the FDE committee as Treasurer in 2012 and then as President in 2013. As a dancer, I have tried to learn not only a wide range of styles, but most importantly from a wide range of people. While contemporary is my main genre, I have learned to appreciate the intricacies of other genres. As a choreographer, I made my Flare debut with an urban choreography gig in my first year in Flare. Although it was not my greatest effort, I still learned a great deal from that experience. Following that, I proceeded to choreograph contemporary and jazz production pieces from 2012 till now. I try not to limit myself to the constraints of “genre” and believe that my experience in other styles heavily influences my own contemporary and jazz choreographies. Have you heard to good news? TICKETS ARE STILL SELLING WHICH MEANS YOU CAN STILL COME! And if you like what you see on the day why not try buying another ticket for the next day :) |
