Performance Class (Urban) - Rachael Lee

27/10/2016

Comments

Since the Video Projects produced a few months back which were for new and upcoming choreographers to showcase their ability, Flare has teamed up with choreographers to produce Performance Classes. These classes are designed for dancers to see their progression throughout the year as many do not have videos to see how far they have come.  These classes were available to all members as casuals and was filmed during the last session.

3 NIGHTS, 3 INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCES

Flare Dance Ensemble would like to thank everyone who came and supported our dancers over the 3 days of production. To our dancers and crew, the committee would like to send special thanks to each of you as it has been a pleasure working with you all throughout the year. We succeeded in making this year another unforgettable one and sincerely hope the memories shared over the course of the year and the fact that it is now all over will cause you to feel "Post-Production Depression" (PPD, Yeo, J - 2012).

With the conclusion of another year, we now look forward to our Annual General Meeting, where the current committee steps down from their positions and and a new team of dedicated and intelligent people take on board a role in our 2017 committee.

Our AGM will be held on Friday the 28th of October at Theatre 1, 207 Bouverie St (Melbourne School of Population and Global Health) at 5:15PM. All members are encouraged to attend and vote for who they wish to lead them through another successful year.

Visit the Facebook event page for details.

Jun Takahashi
Gigs Coordinator, 2009
Artistic Director, 2014 - 2016

TIME FOR OUR LAST CHOREOGRAPHER! JUN TAKAHASHI! Known as the Flare God, this summoners war loving, dance crazy person has dedicated countless number hours into making Flare great. Her contributions to the club have strengthened the bonds of each individual and has set the bar for the next Artistic Director.

I’m Jun ^_^ I started dancing in 2006, and have been a part of Flare since 2007. Two years later, my dance life became a little more interesting. Not only did I give choreographing a go (I choreographed my first production piece with a friend), but I was also recruited by MUTE Crew (Winners of Step Off 2015 & 2016). During this time, I was exposed to many different dance styles such as house, locking and popping. After choreographing my first production piece, I decided to stick to choreographing gigs and teaching casual classes instead.
In 2014, I became Flare’s Artistic Director and am blessed to be working with so many talented people, both choreographers and dancers alike. I choreographed “Be Different” last year, and I had heaps of fun dancing with 35 amazing dancers. This year I have the pleasure of working with a cast of 40 and I’m bringing a more personal touch to the stage.
My piece this year, “Dedicated”, is a dedication to all my friends who I’ve watched come and go during my 10 years in Flare. It is about the initial struggles of leaving what seemed to be a club at first, but unexpectedly turned into a family that is so hard to part with. I never really understood the sadness of leaving until this year, as this will be my last year in Flare. However, no matter the distance, most of us still managed to keep in touch and are supporting each other throughout our life journeys. It is times like these that make you really appreciate the bonds you have created with the people you have met, all the special moments you’ve shared and how much you’ve grown together. May we keep spreading the love for dance and continue to support one another unconditionally <3

As this is Jun's last year as our Artistic Director and in Flare, we wish her the very best in her future endeavours and like always,
Once a Flarian, Forever a Flarian.
