No, really, clear your night schedule for the 2nd of February because Sydney choreographers Rob McLean and Lucy Doherty are in town, and we’ve got some super exciting workshop classes lined up for y’all. And what better way to kickstart the year than to experience some workshops run by some of the most well-known Australian dancers Flare’s ever hosted?
This will be a grand and rare opportunity to learn from such amazing teachers (at quite an affordable price, by the way), so be quick and book a spot in their classes here before they fill up! The two classes are back-to-back, running from 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm at Elevator Studios on February 2nd (in just under 2 weeks!) There will also be some time saved for Q&A sessions with each teacher. It’s $25 for 1 class, $35 for 2 classes, and if you were a Flare member in 2017, you’ve got a $5 discount (so $20 for 1 and $30 for 2). It doesn’t get much better than this!

Rob McLean is a teacher, dancer and choreographer. Originally from Canberra, Rob is currently based in Sydney and is fast becoming one of Australia’s most sought after choreographers and dancers. As a performer his credits include; Justin Bieber, Jason Derulo, X Factor Australia, Kelly Rowland, Vera Blue, Jessica Mauboy, The Dream Dance Company, So You Think You Can Dance Australia (Season 4), Ricki Lee, Dancing For Jane, NRL State of Origin 2015, Telstra, Peter Alexander, Diesel, Australian Dance Festival, Victorian Dance Festival, Crazy Domains, Adobe and many more. Rob has just finished touring Australia and New Zealand with the Dream Dance Company’s "Enter The Vortex", directed by Marko Panzic and choreographed by Sarah Boutler. As a choreographer Rob has exhibited work Internationally at Hennessy VSOP Artistry Awards in Shanghai, and in Australia for multiple events including The Australian Dance Festival, The First VI, Short and Sweet Melbourne, Speakeasy Industry Dance Night in Sydney, Carnival in Sydney and Immersed Dance Industry Night in Melbourne. He has taught and choreographed for many schools and studios around Australia. Rob is not only a passionate dancer and choreographer, he is also a very well respected teacher, across Australia and overseas. He creates a relaxed and fun environment, at the same time really pushes his students to extend and improve their abilities. His knowledge and unique style of choreography fused with his passion and determination is seeing Rob on many dance conventions and seminars across Australia. Last year Rob taught with two of America’s biggest conventions touring Australia in 2016 — NRG and KAR. Rob travelled internationally again, teaching throughout Japan in January and November, as well as performing and choreographing in China late 2015. This year saw Rob teaching for the 4th consecutive year at the Australian Dance Festival, and on the line-up for major dance camps held in Australia featuring teaching from all over the world, Australian Dance Camp and HDI. Rob has also spent a lot of time working as an adjudicator over the past two years. He has worked for Get The Beat in multiple cities across Australia and New Zealand, soon to be heading to Singapore, and with American dance convention KAR on their Australian Tour. Rob was selected as an Australian representative judge for Australia’s World Of Dance qualifier in Brisbane alongside an incredible international panel in 2016 and 2017. |
Lucy Doherty is an Australian dance artist who is passionate about sharing her love for the art of dance through performance, choreography & teaching. Lucy began her professional performing career at the age of 19 working internationally for renowned entertainment giants Disney & Universal Studios in both Japan and Hong Kong. Since returning to Australia Lucy has most recently appeared in The Dream Dance Company's “Enter The Vortex” choreographed by Sarah Boulter, Dance Academy The Movie, So You Think You Can Dance Australia (Season 4), Paul Malek’s Collaboration the Project including Green Room Award Nominated “Yours Truly” and female lead in “Parkland Avenue”, “Wallow” by Erica Sobol (USA) “Trybe” by Stephen Agisilaou, plus corporate performances for Yamaha, Stereosonic, Nine West, Matrix Hair & many more. As a choreographer, Lucy debuted her first full length work “One” on the Sunshine Coast & toured to three major Australian cities in 2015. The production raised funds and awareness for local cancer care services in each city and was presented by “Dancing For Jane” which she founded in honour of her mother who sadly passed away from breast cancer. Other choreographic features include Immersed Dance Melbourne, Underground Sydney, Melbourne & Brisbane, feature film “Up Here” and more. Lucy has also worked as an assistant choreographer to Paul Malek including on the most recent season of SYTYCD Australia. As a teacher Lucy loves to share her passion for dance and encourage aspiring dancers to be themselves and find their own unique possibilities with dance. She travels regularly teaching classes all around Australia, her choreography blends contemporary technique and story telling that pushes dancers to connect & find authenticity in their performance. |
